Welcome to the NEW web page of our research group! Our group is led by Yong-Hee Lee, a distinguished professor of physics at KAIST.
Our research is focused on the interaction of photons with various
optical nanostructures. For the summary of the research topics currently
explored by our lab please visit our Researches page. You may also click one of the representative thumbnail images above to view the detail research summary. Our Publications
page provides the research papers published by our group, and you may
download the papers for personal use only from this page.
Our laboratory is located in Basic Science Building at KAIST. Please see the Contact Us page for more detail.

As the spring season of 2016 has finally arrived, Nano Photonics Lab members welcomed the warm and cherry blossoms season by throwing a strawberry party. This unique festival has been a special tradition within KAIST community during the early spring season each year. We arranged a picnic together and bought foods for lunch, such as pizzas, gimbabs (김밥), and the most important element for the party itself, strawberries. After lunch, we also played catching ball together on the open field shortly.
On Friday, 19 February 2016, KAIST held 2016 commencement
for celebrating the graduation for more than 2,000 KAIST graduates. Two of Nano Photonics Laboratory recent graduates, Dr. Indra Karnadi & Dr. Hee-Jin Lim, also took part in the ceremony. The Nano Photonics Lab current members also celebrated the event with both of them.
Dr. Indra Karnadi will depart for Indonesia on 28 February 2016, while Dr. Hee-Jin Lim will depart for United Kingdom on 30 March 2016, for pursuing their post-graduation careers.
Congratulations and best of luck for your future careers to both Dr. Indra Karnadi & Dr. Hee-Jin Lim.
Nano Photonics Lab members returned again to the Deogyusan Ski Resort
for winter 2016 MT. We spent 3 days 2 nights at the ski resort from Jan 31st
to Feb 2nd
. In total 10 members participated, whom 4 of us were skiing, 4 were snowboarding, and the other 2 were hiking. Aside from skiing activity, during the MT we cooked our meal together and played board game together. It was a fun and pleasant experience. Looking forward for the next MT.
Prof. Yong-Hee Lee received an Achievement Award (공로상 수상) from the Optical Society of Korea (OSK). The award was given at the 27th OSK general assembly meeting (20-22 January 2016) at Daejeon Convention Center in recognition of Prof. Yong-Hee Lee's contribution as the Chairman of CLEO-PR 2015.

On the new year's eve, Nano Photonics Laboratory held movie night together. We watched movie in the Basic Science Building 3rd floor seminar room and order some fried chickens. The movie was the masterpiece of the Wachowskis
: CLOUD ATLAS
. It was a very interesting movie, despite of its complicated story plot. It was a fun and pleasant experience. Looking forward to the next Nano Photonics Laboratory Movie Night.
On Wednesday, December 23rd 2015, Nano Photonics Lab members, including Prof. Yong-Hee Lee, watched the newly released movie:
STAR WARS Episode VIII: The Force Awakens
at Dunsan Lotte Cinema. Everyone was excited and Prof. Yong-Hee Lee even prepared the summary of the previous Star Wars episodes for the students who had not watched the Star Wars movies earlier.
After watching the movie, we had delicious pork ribs (쪽갈비) dinner together at a restaurant near the movie theater.
What a really fun and pleasant experience.
We welcome our newest lab member, Hantaek Kang.
Hantaek is currently pursuing his Master course at Dept. of Physics, KAIST, and he will be starting his research for his Master thesis in Nano Photonics Laboratory from November 2015.
Our lab alumni Dr. Sejeong Kim and our lab member Hwi-Min Kim published a paper in Optics Letters entitled: Single nanobeam optical sensor with a high Q-factor and high sensitivity.
Congratulations Dr. Sejeong Kim & Hwi-Min.
