Welcome to the NEW web page of our research group! Our group is led by Yong-Hee Lee, a distinguished professor of physics at KAIST.
Our research is focused on the interaction of photons with various
optical nanostructures. For the summary of the research topics currently
explored by our lab please visit our Researches page. You may also click one of the representative thumbnail images above to view the detail research summary. Our Publications
page provides the research papers published by our group, and you may
download the papers for personal use only from this page.
Our laboratory is located in Basic Science Building at KAIST. Please see the Contact Us page for more detail.

On July 15th 2016, Nano Photonics Lab welcomed a new postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Sangyoon Han
, who joins our research group.
Dr. Han recently graduated from Prof. Ming C. Wu's group
in the University of California, Berkeley.
We look forward to working together with him.
Welcome to our lab, Dr. Sangyoon Han.
On June 1st
2016 Nano Photonics Lab members together with Prof. Yong-Hee Lee went to a Korean BBQ restaurant
, a small city next to Daejeon. In this event, we celebrated Prof. Yong-Hee Lee's 61st
birthday, together with Hoon Jang's recent defense completion. We enjoyed the famous Jeju Black Pork (제주흑돼지)
BBQ, Korean traditional wine (막걸리)
, and tiramisu cake. It was a really joyous evening.
On May 28th
2016 Nano Photonics Lab organized homecoming day. In this event, all of the lab alumni, along with their families, were invited to spend a day together with Prof. Yong-Hee Lee and the current members of Nano Photonics Lab. In this joyful day, we reconnected with each other through various events which were prepared by the current lab members, such as volleyball, softball, bingo, Korean BBQ dinner, and finally drinking together at a local pub. Here are some pictures taken during the event.
Hoon has successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled Sub-µW Threshold Nano-Island Lasers on May 27th, 2015.
Congratulations Dr. Jang.
As the spring season of 2016 has finally arrived, Nano Photonics Lab members welcomed the warm and cherry blossoms season by throwing a strawberry party. This unique festival has been a special tradition within KAIST community during the early spring season each year. We arranged a picnic together and bought foods for lunch, such as pizzas, gimbabs (김밥), and the most important element for the party itself, strawberries. After lunch, we also played catching ball together on the open field shortly.
On Friday, 19 February 2016, KAIST held 2016 commencement
for celebrating the graduation for more than 2,000 KAIST graduates. Two of Nano Photonics Laboratory recent graduates, Dr. Indra Karnadi & Dr. Hee-Jin Lim, also took part in the ceremony. The Nano Photonics Lab current members also celebrated the event with both of them.
Dr. Indra Karnadi will depart for Indonesia on 28 February 2016, while Dr. Hee-Jin Lim will depart for United Kingdom on 30 March 2016, for pursuing their post-graduation careers.
Congratulations and best of luck for your future careers to both Dr. Indra Karnadi & Dr. Hee-Jin Lim.
Nano Photonics Lab members returned again to the Deogyusan Ski Resort
for winter 2016 MT. We spent 3 days 2 nights at the ski resort from Jan 31st
to Feb 2nd
. In total 10 members participated, whom 4 of us were skiing, 4 were snowboarding, and the other 2 were hiking. Aside from skiing activity, during the MT we cooked our meal together and played board game together. It was a fun and pleasant experience. Looking forward for the next MT.
